Oita Prefectural Library, Oita, Japan, 1964-66
(Arata Isozaki)
I’m ringing in the new year at FYB with a series of photographs documenting Arata Isozaki’s wonderfully inventive, weird-brutalist Oita Library, since renovated by Isozaki (ca. 1996) into the Oita Art Plaza. Sadly, the delightful shag-carpeted smoking lounge seen here is no longer extant.
